(i) Revelations Four Horses of the Apocalypse Introduction
Revelations Four Horses of the Apocalypse : The word “Apocalypse” is not found anywhere in the bible. It is a Greek word meaning revelation it does not mean horror or violence of any kind. It is associated with fire coming down from heaven but is not understood in the right context. In this article we will study the Four Horses of the Apocalypse from a mystical perspective and it is based around a talk given on YouTube as referenced at the end.
God does not teach about horror & religion has wrongly interpreted it this way as they have missed the underlying mystical significance of what is being said. So religion gives us a distorted understanding of this book or ignores it altogether.
(ii) Revelations Four Horses of the Apocalypse Mystical Interpretation
Proverbs 1 : 6 To understand a proverb, and the interpretation; the words of the wise, and their dark sayings.
“Dark sayings” are the secrets & are hidden and have to be uncovered through contemplation & meditation. Wisdom is understanding these dark sayings and by ‘Revelation’ is meant unveiling.
A Horse in mysticism is not the animal but is a symbol of the nature of the mind, either higher or lower. The Four Horses need understanding spiritually therefore.
The Bible was given to us so we could understand ourselves:
Revelation 19 : 11 And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.
This doesn’t mean literally Christ is coming on a white horse! The winged horse Pegasus was white as it soared upwards with a higher understanding.
We have also 4 colours to look at 1)Red 2)Black 3)Pale 4)White.
Red = emotions e.g. the Red Sea. Red devils with horns signify the power of the emotions.
Black = intellect which is the west hemisphere of the brain & the east the right hemisphere. The sun rises from the east and sets in the west, so west is associated with blackness and lack of clarity. The sun rises in the east and this is associated with spiritual light, with the body a macrocosm of the universe. So we cannot decipher the Bible out intellectually.
Pale = physical.
White = spiritual. Pure & free from all thought. Jesus said my kingdom is not of this world and yet Christianity believes the word of the church that he is physically coming again.
We now go to the number 4 and the unfolding of the 4 fold nature physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual; The 4 points of the compass. In the book of numbers the tribes of Israel are pointed N,S,E,W.
Every letter in the Jewish alphabet has a numerical value to it. Adam = 9 = consciousness.
We now take each of the four horses of the apocalypse in turn :
(1) The White Horse of the Apocalypse
Revelation 6
The ‘white horse’ is spirit.
The ‘bow’ allows the arrow to fly upwards into the bosom of God. It represents aspiration to a higher purpose, similar to Sagittarius, the archer who aspires to the spiritual.
To understand what crown means we look at the 5 stages of consciousness in Greek.. earth(lower mind), water(truth), air(no thought) fire(spirit) 5th = new mind.
This is why John says he can baptise with water whereas Christ will baptise with fire. In other words, John initiates and Christ gives the spiritual realisations that go hand in hand with initiation.
In Qabalah we have the lowest which is action(earth) then formation(water) creation(air) emanation( manifestation) and 5th is CROWN ! So crown relates to divine consciousness.
“He went forth conquering himself” = his fears e.g. separation from his source or spirit and the fears of the mind emotions etc which keeps the spirit in bondage..
So the white horse rises up within and protects the Christ child within you.
(2) The Red Horse of the Apocalypse
Revelation 6
3 And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.
Red is the emotional nature. The red planet MARS.
The power of the emotions is one of destruction as it takes peace from the earth. The sword (intellect) cuts through the emotions. Thoughts are faster .
(3) The Black Horse of the Apocalypse
The balances or scales = the principal of mind which evaluates, like Adjustment in the Thoth Tarot pack (photo). Our decisions should be based on the power of the white horse of spirit through meditation, not reasoned with the intellect.
The blackness of the west (the mind) encroaches on the light that rises from the east(Spirit, Garden of Eden). The intellect of the left cuts out the wisdom of the right. We have to give a Tithe in meditation i.e. our 10% or the left side of the brain which is 10% of the brains function. It is the side associated with our material nature. So by giving our 10% we are sacrificing the lower for the higher. It has nothing to do with 10% of earnings as is a commonly held view.
Wheat = wisdom,
Barley = love.
Wine = spirit, the oil is reference to that which flows up through the spine which lights the third eye.
In the Parable of the Ten Virgins in Matthew 25 there were 5 foolish ones who had no oil because they were living through the 5 senses and so all of their energy was expended. They had no energy left to rise up the spinal cord to awaken their spiritual centres. The bridegroom was Christ/God/Spirit.
(4) The Pale Horse of the Apocalypse
7 And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see.
It is the body that dies first. Everything that’s physical dies. Our physical desires stop us from experiencing spirit. Hell followed with him. Hell is the lower aspects of the mind.
If the pale horse is in the lead we are separated from God because we are consumed by our physical existence.
If the black horse is winning we are questioning everything and trying to analyse that which cannot be analysed i.e. spirit.
If the Red horse leads then you are at war with yourself and there are emotional issues to deal with.
If the white horse of spirit and meditation leads then you are going to conquer the other three.
Religion is about endlessly reading it and never doing as a spiritual practise.
The pale horse is represented in the Tarot by the Death Card:
(iii) Concluding Thoughts
John 14
18 I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.
20 At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you.
Jesus is within us not in outside dogma or religion.He will not be coming back physically. This is where teachings like Paramahansa Yogandnda’s Second Coming of Christ are important to understand. Christ Consciousness is within by meditation through the single eye as talked about in the new testament.
