Knight of Disks Thoth Tarot Card Tutorial
My new YouTube channel is : Thoth Tarot Videos. The Court Card videos are yet to be remade.
(ii) Thoth Knight of Disks
The Knight of Disks is of short stature and is seen amongst the wheat on agricultural land. He looks up over the horizon at the sun coming up over the hill. His horse is heavier and slower than that of the other Knights and his helmet is raised.
(iv) Sub Elements of the Knight of Disks
Fiery part of Earth
Fiery part of Earth and Crowley states this refers to the:
” phenomena of mountains, earthquakes and gravitation, but it also represents the activity of earth as a giver of life” (p.164)
With Fire and Earth, fire provides the inspiration and creativity to cultivate the earth, as the sun provides light for growth. These two elements combine well and we see a card of harvest and fertility and admiring ones achievements.
Elemental Dignity Rules
- Fire and Air are friendly and active
- Water and Earth are friendly and passive
- Fire and Water are enemies, they weaken each other
- Air and Earth are enemies, they weaken each other
- Fire and Earth strengthen each other but are neutral
- Water and Air strengthen each other but are neutral
So the Knight of Disks being fire and earth, has complementary elements but they are not ACTIVE, so he does not have the same activity as the other Thoth Knights.
(v) Tetragrammaton & The Knight of Disks
Yod of Hey Final represents the seed (Yod) acting as a procreative power on the earth. The Knight of Disks is at one with the earth and is concerned with agriculture.
Agriculture = the science or practice of farming, including cultivation of the soil for the growing of crops and the rearing of animals to provide food, wool, and other products.
(vi) Knight of Disks & The Tree of Life
Chockmah in Assiah :
The element of fire is applied to practical things in the fourth world of Assiah. This Knight is therefore very much in the world and his actions are visible for all to see. His energy, will, focus (Yod) is on the earth.
(vii) Astrology & The Knight of Disks
The Knight of Disks rules from 21° Leo to 20° Virgo.
The first 2 decans of Virgo are ruled by the Sun and Venus which go very well with this card. The energy of sunlight is necessary for crops and the additional nurturing qualities of Venus only complement him.
(viii) Symbolism of the Knight of Disks
Shire horse = not used for battle but for practical purposes. Its stature reflects this and Crowley states:
” it is solidly planted on all four feet, as was not the case with the other Knights” (p164)
Helmet = raised. He is not in battle like the Knight of Wands & Knight of Swords.
Helmet Crest = A stag’s head associated with prudence in Renaissance times. Prudence is also associated with the Hermit who is ruled by Virgo.
Flail = used to thresh wheat. Harvest, associated with Virgo and fertility & Osiris.
Front (Hidden) side of Shield = this is a converted disk in keeping with the nature of a Knight. The face of the shield is hidden & is likely to be the Pentacle of the Zelator Adeptus Minor :
The pentacle can be said to represent a container for the magical forces inscribed on it. It is used to encircle these forces and bring them into physical or earthly manifestation. The Earth Pentacle of the Golden Dawn is used by the adept in all magical workings pertaining to the nature of Earth, and is under the presidency of the Hebrew letter Heh Final, and of the “Pentacle of the Tarot.” The Zelator Adeptus Minor uses it in rituals where the spirits of the element of Earth are invoked.
So in essence this is all about INVOKING THE SPIRITS OF EARTH FOR PLENTIFUL HARVEST
(ix) Minor Arcana Cards Ruled by the Knight of Disks
The 3 minor arcana cards of which the Knight of Disks rules are :
VALOR (7 of Wands) + PRUDENCE (8 of disks) + GAIN (9 of disks)
VALOUR ( 7 of Wands) = is where the Knight draws his work ethic from. He keeps going and going, even through long odds. His lifestyle, like that of the farmer can involve many hours of labour and they sometimes keep going until exhaustion. Suicide is high amongst farmers !
PRUDENCE (8 of Disks): a very positive card and implies a work commitment over a longer period of time before results can be visible, and so it is good that he has the qualities of the 7 of Wands at hand. Implies skilled at managing practical matters.
GAIN (9 of Disks): He has fortune on his side as a result of applying the qualities of the cards above. Success will come and so this is a positive card to get.
(x) I Ching & The Knight of Disks
Hsiao Kuo (Conscientiousness) = Hexagram 62
The top trigram represents the element Fire and the lower trigram Earth.
Self control and attention to detail will bring results.
Be courteous socially and not too flamboyant. Avoid excessive displays of emotion at this time whilst holding an awareness of your true feelings.
Keep a close eye over all financial transactions and be prudent in your out goings.
So overall this is probably not the most emotionally fulfilling time but it will be a very productive one if this advice is taken.
(xi) Divinatory Meanings of the Knight of Disks
Knight of Disks Upright
Instinctive, working with nature
Reliable, hard work ethic which gets results over the long-term.
Has a deep connection with mother earth.
Knight of Disks Reversed
His life can be rather dull and predictable. Also not the cleverest intellectually as there are no air cards that he rules. Instead he relies on a strong work ethic to get things done. He can be preoccupied with material things
Unable to take a significant interest in anything outside their own work environment.
The instinctively realise the intelligence of others and will not rise to the challenge of improving themselves
Crowley states :
“their fire is a smouldering fire of the process of growth” (p.165).
So we have no great spark of inspiration from this character.
(xii) Celtic Cross Interpretation of the Knight of Disks
1: Heart of the Situation = my life is boring and predictable
2: Possible obstacle = need to become more grounded in our everyday life. We have been listening to our heart too much and ignoring the practicalities of life.
3: Subconscious Desires = we would really like to be more disciplined and organised. Also more in touch with nature !
4: Recent Past = quite tedious and uneventful. Getting things done but no fun
5: Hopes and goals = to make a commitment to something or someone
6: Short Term Future = need to keep a close eye on finances and practical matters
7: Our Self Image = steady , reliable but not really emotionally turned on about anything. play it safe
8: Environment = dependable, boring, unexciting but productive. Getting things done but no fun in our life.
9: Guidance & Warning = if we don’t become more grounded and less ruled by our emotions then we could be in financial trouble !
10: Overall Outcome = a period of stability, of devotion to ones work and keeping the longer term in sight. Acknowledge that you need to be emotionally fulfilled but don’t let your emotions rule you.
