Thoth Court Cards and Minor Arcana Relationship

The Thoth Court Cards and Minor Arcana Relationship is of fundamental importance in understanding the meaning of twelve of the sixteen Court Cards. Apart from the Princesses, each card has a domain of 3 minor arcana cards as can be seen on the decan wheel below. Knight of Wands Personality Traits

In this article we will use the Knight of Wands as an example of how to derive an accurate description of his personality traits from his minor arcana domain and other associated influences which are not evident at first glance. Firstly, some standard words and descriptions to describe this character are:

Court Cards and Minor Arcana

However another description I found for him was :

Court Cards and Minor Arcana

The two descriptions dont seem to represent the same person! The first seems to describe him purely in relation to his elements (Fire of Fire), however the second seems to give him attributes that are not usually associated with him or immediately obvious.

Minor Arcana Domain of Knight of Wands

A closer look at the Knight of Wands in relation to the decan wheel reveals his domain is composed of the minor arcana cards of the Eight of Wands (Swiftness), Nine of Wands (Strength) and Seven of Cups (Debauch).

Court Cards and Minor Arcana

The Knight of Wands also has an association with the Art Card (ruled by Sagittarius) from the major arcana as his astrological make up is two thirds Sagittarius. So in summary, the influencing cards for the Knight of Wands can be seen below:

The Divinatory Meanings of the Knight of Wands in relationship to these cards can be summarised in the table below:

Card Astrological Association Divinatory Meaning
Sagittarius Philosophical, adventurous, independent, outspoken, optimistic, tactless,
Scorpio Domineering, possessiveness, manipulating. When Scorpio learns optimism, instead of expecting the worst, they’ll find that they possess amazing regenerative powers — the power to heal, create, and transform.
8 of Wands Mercury in Sagittarius A rush of ideas & inspiration, not yet completely thought out or grounded. Inspirational moment out of the blue to guide us spiritually but we have to work on grounding them for the best outcome.
9 of Wands Moon in Sagittarius Knowing we have the inner strength to get past obstacles but we need to reach deep within the well of our life experience and use it to good effect in the present
7 of Cups Venus in Scorpio An excess of ideas and imagination unable to focus on one thing. Tempted by things we know is not in our best interests. Putting energy into things for instant gratification
Atu 14. ‘Art’ Sagittarius Balancing of opposites (in this case fire and water) Finding the right balance of your skills to make the most out of your life. Making something new and better than you have now !
Atu 5 (Taking 1+4 from Art) Hierophant Spiritual teacher. A period of Intense learning.

We also have a  potential strong influence of the Moon which is not initially obvious:

9 of Wands (Moon in Sagittarius) + Art Card (Sagittarius but with a strong Moon influence). The central figure is Diana, the Lunar Goddess. Diana was initially a hunting goddess She also became the goddess of childbirth and ruled over the countryside.

Conclusion

It is important to find your own meaning for each card after study and meditation. This is a process which takes time and may even be modified as your learning and experience grows.

My own quick summary of the Knight of Wands in relation to the above is as follows:

What we see underlying his inspirational ,surging, impulsive nature (8 of Wands), is an ability to draw on inner strengths and experiences (9 of wands) and not get drawn into situations that will not be in his best interests ( 7 of cups). He is naturally optimistic and philosophical, with a need to go beyond his lower self (7 of cups)  and express his spiritual realisations (Sagittarius), however, in his spiritual quest he must go within and balance his conflicts,(The Art Card: Fire and Water), so that he is able to ground himself and be in touch with his nurturing side (Moon).
