(i) Burnt Offerings A Mystical Interpretation

In this article we will look at Burnt Offerings A Mystical Interpretation. However firstly  we will examine the traditional viewpoint. The Hebrew word for “burnt offerings” actually means to “ascend,“ literally to “go up in smoke.” The smoke from the sacrifice ascended to God, “a soothing aroma to the LORD” (Leviticus 1:9). Technically, any offering burned over an altar was a burnt offering, but in more specific terms, a burnt offering was the complete destruction of the animal (except for the hide) in an effort to renew the relationship between Holy God and sinful man.

A person could give a burnt offering at any time. It was a sacrifice of general atonement—an acknowledgement of the sin nature and a request for renewed relationship with God.

From the above text we see that the traditional interpretation of burnt offerings is that of a literal event in order to rectify the problem of the sin of man in the eyes of God

(ii) Burnt Offerings New Testament correction of literal interpretation 

Psalms 40 : 6 Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire; mine ears hast thou opened: burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required.

Sacrifice and offering thou didst not desire = God didn’t want animal sacrifice or offerings

mine ears hast thou opened = the person has now understood this from God

burnt offering and sin offering hast thou not required = offerings of animals in the name of sin are not required

Isaiah 1 : 11 To what purpose is the multitude of your sacrifices unto me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of the goats.

This verse makes it clear that God does not delight in the sacrifice of animals and that they serve no purpose to him.

(iii) Burnt Offerings A Mystical Interpretation Examined

Burnt Offerings are a symbol of offering up the lower desires (commonly referred to as beasts in the Bible) to the higher nature or spirit in order that they may be purified by the (spiritual) fire. Meditation on the inner light and sound is a very potent meditation method of achieving this.

Our thoughts are responsible for much of our health and well being so even from a health point of view, meditation and burnt offerings ( transmuting our carnal nature) are very beneficial.

Genesis 8 : 20 And Noah built an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.

Every lower emotion and desire is sacrificed in meditation to spirit.

Leviticus 6 : 12 And the fire upon the altar shall be burning in it; it shall not be put out: and the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order upon it; and he shall burn thereon the fat of the peace offerings.

Priest casting out his lower desires, thoughts and transmuting them in the fire of spirit. A purification of the lower vehicles.

Burn wood = wood refers to the lower astral (emotions). In the Chinese Taoist system, the 5 elements are earth, fire, water, metal, earth wood.  They refer to :

Fire = Atmic

Water = Higher Astral

Metal = Mind

Wood = Emotions

Earth = Matter

Fat (oil, butter) = symbols of mans love. If offered in a sacrifice they signify the offering of the heart of the devotee to God. So here, he is giving his love inwardly to God

Leviticus 6 : 13 The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out.

fire.. never goes out = his love for God and will to be one with him eventually leads to union with the ‘eternal ‘ fire or will of God.

(iv) Burnt Offerings Applied to Meditation

So in terms of the macrocosm, the sacrifice is happening in meditation as we sacrifice the thoughts of the mind a and go into higher states of awareness.

What then is happening cosmically. The animal that is sacrificed is the Lamb ruled by Aries.

According to the Old Testament the sacrifice is the burnt offering. So cosmically this takes place as below

1. The Sun is the fire and when the sun comes up it consumes the constellation Aries in the spring time.

2. The cold, dark winter gives way to the newness of the spring time when the sun reaches the constellation of Aries. The Fire (Sun) consumes the lamb (Aries), far different from burning an animal don’t you think ?

3. The next thing that happens is the PASSOVER. The sun moves over to the right side of the sky and we have summertime.

So we cannot have spring or summer unless there is a burnt offering (the Sun consuming Aries).

In our body, Aries represents the PINEAL GLAND and the Sun represents the SOLAR PLEXUS. The energy from the solar plexus rises up and consumes the pineal gland and this is where people get kundalini experiences.
