Buddhas Enlightenment An Introduction
Buddhas Enlightenment : We think of Jesus as the one who ascended to heaven and yet the ascension of Buddha happened 1000 years before Christ. All of this essentially happens inside of US. This article discusses what Buddha realised on his Enlightenment and decodes some of the mythology associated with it that appears in Buddhist texts. Buddhas drive was born out of compassion to end the suffering of mankind but upon his enlightenment his realisations were rather profound, three of which are listed below:
1. Everything is extinct
2. Everyone is without a self
3. No one exists & so there is no suffering
He said that there is pain because people are ignorant of their enlightenment and their true nature & there is no suffering because there are no people anywhere as people are extinct.
Buddhas Enlightenment is Unteachable
SPIRITUAL TRUTHS ARE UNTEACHABLE , one cannot learn it or read it out of books or hear it from a church.Buddha then wondered how he could teach the realisations that he had gained through his enlightenment.
We can see a similar parallel in the bible when Jesus was teaching as shown in the verse below :
John 6: 60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard this, said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it?
Jesus had said to them in order for them to reach salvation that they should eat his flesh and drink his blood. This is an analogy for meditation on spiritual energies and connecting the Christ Consciousness that resides within.
All that can be taught are the ways which lead from where man is centered in his own ego and identification with the physical body, to the divine essence. Jesus was talking about the same thing in his teachings. These spiritual truths are IMPOSSIBLE to understand with the mind. There is a saying : “Meditation starts where thoughts stop”
Joseph Campbell said:
“to learn the way is not enough, to see the way is not enough, to sit in meditation is not enough, only when you enter the passageway of the souls which is ‘nowhere’ , then its enough”
This is because on realising that we exist as no-thing , we become part of the answer. These are the direct realisations we must have to validate a spiritual journey.
Buddha said when you have reached the place where there is no Buddha then you have reached Nirvana.
Mythology & Buddhas Enlightenment
Below is a summary of some of the mythology associated with Buddha’s Enlightenment. We will look at these statements in turn and try to discover what spiritual truth they are trying to convey.
The sky or universe has flowers reigning down from it and Buddha is sitting on a throne. This throne is described as 7 times the height of a palm tree (ref here). This process describes our ascension as well as that of Buddha or Christ. As his throne rose the earth shook in 6 different ways & an myriad of witnesses were illuminated (stars, planets etc).
For 7 days the Buddha was bathed in the waters of the 4 oceans (ref here).
Another 7 days he remained seated with his eyes closed.
After he had been bathed and blinded for 14 days the King of the Serpents came and spread her hood around him and protected him.
Finally a Goddess, daughter of the Gods smiling brought to him for his ordination a garment of rags.
Flowers descending from the sky = the qualities which bloom into life and represent the good qualities of the different coloured chakras which are energised during meditation. This indicates that our ascension time is ready, similar to what happens in nature in spring time in the sign of Aries when the flowers start to bloom.
So when we meditate all of the colour comes back into our life (represented by the flowers). In winter everything is dull there is no colour as this is an analogy of when we are uninspired spiritually.
Perfume of Flowers = the sweetness of God, the essence of Christ within us (the light and sound which can be meditated upon).
Sky = higher consciousness.
7 times the height of a Palm Tree = the number 7 means ‘divine intervention’.
Palm Trees = are divine truths because they only take water deep from the centre, they don’t take water from the outside, just deep from the inside. They bend in a storm they don’t break and when the storm breaks they come back up again. So we should be like the palm tree , taking only that which is deep (not superficial) and be flexible enough within ourselves to stand up again after the storm has passed.
Palm trees are also mentioned in the bible in a different context:
Ezekiel 40: 26 And there were seven steps to go up to it, and the arches thereof were before them: and it had palm trees, one on this side, and another on that side, upon the posts thereof.
The palm trees signify the Ida and Pingala flows associated with the kundalini, as represented by the 2 thieves , the 2 witnesses of Revelation.
Buddha seated on a throne =
Lets look at Isaiah to understand this :
Isaiah 66 : 1 Thus saith the LORD, The heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that ye build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?
heaven = Gods kingdom is his throne. The kingdom is within as shown by the verse below.
Luke 17 : 21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you.
So the process of Buddha’s ascension is that he rises up into the air (the third stage of Greek consciousness). This is sometimes called the ‘Third Heaven’.
There are NO THOUGHTS in this stage.
This concept of rising into the air is apparent behind Buddhism & Christianity.
1st Thessalonians 4 : 17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
clouds = the unseen spirit which is why Moses always had to go into the clouds to visit God.
In the old Testament it talks about the Construction of the Temple:
1st Kings 6: 7 And the house, when it was in building, was built of stone made ready before it was brought thither: so that there was neither hammer nor axe nor any tool of iron heard in the house, while it was in building.
nothing heard in the house = the temple was built in SILENCE. There was no sound of construction. Our temple inside must be built the same way. Our spiritual temple can NEVER be a church, it is built through the silence of God which can only be heard inside (not with our outer ears).
1st Kings 6 : 8 The door for the middle chamber was in the right side of the house: and they went up with winding stairs into the middle chamber, and out of the middle into the third.
middle chamber = holy place on the right side = the right side is the side we listen for the OM sound in meditation. Its also the spiritual side of the brain.
Winding stairs = Kundalini as seen in the diagram above.
into the third = the 3 stage of consciousness or AIR , see articles on the 5 Stages of Greek Consciousness.
The apostle Paul was said to have had an outer body experience as described in the Verse below:
2 Corinthians 12 : 2 I knew a man in Christ above fourteen years ago, (whether in the body, I cannot tell; or whether out of the body, I cannot tell: God knoweth;) such an one caught up to the third heaven.
third heaven = Air
out of the body = was he in or out of the body when he was caught up in the third heaven ? So the bible does talk about out of body experiences.
Again this is reiterated in the verse below
2 Corinthians 5 : 8 We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.
Both of these verses are very anti Christian in that out of body experiences are usually thought of as something evil or out of the new age movement.
Earth shook in 6 different ways :
myriad of witnesses were illuminated = within us.
For 7 days the Buddha was bathed in the waters of the 4 oceans = oneness with all life and humanity. Seven = talking about his divinity. Being one with nature again as our habits have hurt it for so long. He was bathed as all of his Karma from the world had to be washed away prior to his enlightenment.
Jesus said something similar when he said I must wash your feet otherwise I will have no part of you. The feet are the things that touch the earth and represent the lower mind. So by washing or cleansing our lower mind he is able to guide his disciples spiritually. the feet pick up dirt in the same way that our lower mind does.
Another 7 days he remained seated with his eyes closed = Buddha did not see the world the way he did before. Things that were important to him were not important anymore. New insight through spiritual awareness.
In the bible it says that Paul was knocked off his horse on the road to Damascus and became blind. The horse represents understanding (we are taller on the horse, have greater vision). So the understanding that Paul had was pulled out from under him, the understanding of the world that is).
This was also referred to in my recent Noah’s Ark article where it was described that the window as put in the ceiling of the Ark which meant that we have to look UP and not be distracted at the ways of the world.
After he had been bathed and blinded for 14 days the King of the Serpents came and spread her hood around him and protected him =
There are 9 levels of consciousness and when we move down to the 8th then this is where all our bad memories come from. The serpent representing the Kundalini and the protective nature of spirit.
Finally a Goddess, daughter of the Gods smiling brought to him for his ordination a garment of rags = despite reaching spiritual enlightenment the Goddess has brought him rags for his ordination as there is no personal glory for oneself on the journey, perhaps religion has lost its way:
garment of rags = because we are here for one purpose and that is to serve the earth & humanity. It has nothing to do with feeding our own vanity. So this is of major importance to those who come along to spiritual meetings for their own glorification as it is all about serving God and helping humanity. It has nothing to do with us wearing a crown :
Jesus said :
Luke 9 : 58 And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
We should just meditate and be changed through the process and let spirit lead us where it may. Allow the Gods to sprinkle the flowers within us and reveal the perfume of the spiritual energy within us, to be risen into the holy place and have our karma washed away in the ocean of spiritual bliss. We will then be blinded to all the things that we thought were important and we become protected by the universal spirit.
On completion of the spiritual journey or enlightenment we get no worldly recognition and we go this so we become part of the universal consciousness so we can reach out to humanity to SERVE.
Buddhas Enlightenment Concluding Thoughts
Buddha says we are 7 times higher than the palm tree when we are on the spiritual throne because, regardless of the spiritual significance of the palm tree, when we direct all our energy toward the celestial fountain of God our consciousness becomes that much higher than the palm tree. Buddha is risen into the Air (with no thought) above the involution and evolution of life (ida & pingala) as represented by the palm trees.
When we get beyond the symbology of these stories and realise these things in a deeper way, this knowledge can be used for the good of the planet (man & animals). In meditation were are purged of ego, desires and selfishness & are rewired from within so we become better tools for teaching and spreading spirituality . It has nothing to do with earning money for personal gain or recognition.
So it is important when we rise up into the air that we become Bodhisattva (or concerned about others) & not just immersed with our own Enlightenment, as this in itself can bring detachment without compassion.
